The Amazonian destination of Tambopata can be visited year-round. The best time to travel, with less rain and firmer trails, is during the dry season (approximately May to October). During the rainy season (November to April), the rainforest is lush and green, rivers swell, and heavy downpours are likely; mosquitoes are also more prevalent. Temperatures range from 22–32°C with high humidity. Early mornings are ideal for nature photography and birdwatching. During peak season (July–August and holidays), it is advisable to book in advance. Please note that the weather in the Amazon is variable, and the tour itinerary may be adjusted for safety reasons.

For this ecotourism experience in the Peruvian Amazon, pack light and quick-drying clothing. Recommended items include: long-sleeved shirts and lightweight pants (neutral colors), a raincoat or poncho, a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, trekking boots or rubber boots (sometimes the lodge provides these), sandals for the lodge, and extra socks. Essential items include: insect repellent with DEET or icaridin, sunscreen, a headlamp with batteries, a reusable water bottle, a power bank, a waterproof case for your camera/phone, and binoculars for birdwatching. Add a personal first-aid kit and any medications. Bring copies of your passport, cash in soles for expenses not included in the tour, and dry bags to protect your belongings while traveling.

For travel to the Tambopata rainforest, it is recommended to consult with a travel medicine clinic. The yellow fever vaccine (administered at least 10 days prior to your trip) is generally advised, as is up-to-date vaccinations for tetanus, hepatitis A, and hepatitis B; malaria prophylaxis is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. Wear long-sleeved clothing and insect repellent to prevent bites. Drink safe water provided by the lodge and stay hydrated due to the heat and humidity. Inform the tour operator about any allergies or dietary restrictions. Always follow the naturalist guide's instructions, maintain a safe distance from wildlife, and do not leave any trash. Purchase travel insurance with medical and evacuation coverage.

Prices for the Tambopata tour vary depending on the season, the eco-lodge's category, the number of nights, and included services. It's standard practice to book in advance and pay a deposit to confirm your reservation; the balance is due before departure. Cancellation and change policies vary by operator: tiered fees may apply, and rescheduling is possible due to weather conditions or force majeure. Review the terms regarding no-shows, refunds, and date flexibility. Payments are accepted by credit card and bank transfer; please keep your e-voucher. For a smooth experience, check flights to Puerto Maldonado, inform them of your arrival time to coordinate transfers, and reconfirm 48–72 hours prior to departure.
