Tour Description
Our tour of the Countryside, Sabandía Mill, and Founder’s Mansion begins with a convenient pickup from your hotel in downtown Arequipa. We will set off towards the picturesque and expansive Arequipa countryside, known for its cultivation of onions and garlic.
Our journey takes us to the Valley of Chilina, where you can marvel at the vibrant hues of the countryside from its magnificent viewpoint. Here, you'll enjoy stunning vistas of lush green fields and the serene Chili River.
Next, we visit Paucarpata, a location famous for its terraces and viewpoints that offer breathtaking panoramic views of the Arequipa countryside and the majestic Misti volcano.
The tour continues with a visit to the Founder’s Mansion, a traditional sillar manor house constructed in the 16th century by Arequipa's founder, Garcí Manuel de Carbajal. Situated 20 kilometers from the Plaza de Armas and near the Socabaya River, it retains its colonial-era charm and original decor.
This mansion has been home to various notable figures, including doctors, bishops, generals, and priests. It boasts a quaint chapel, a stunning main patio, and vibrant gardens. During your visit, you'll see rooms adorned with canvases, ceramics, and furniture imported from Europe.
Located just 9 kilometers from the city, the Sabandía Mill is an architectural treasure dating back to 1621. Made of sillar, it remains operational today! The mill is surrounded by expansive gardens filled with native trees and plants such as cacti and succulents.
Master stonemason Don Francisco Flores crafted this fascinating site, which now stands as one of Arequipa's most significant historical landmarks.
Concluding the tour, we will head back to the city center to drop you off at your hotel.
