Tour Description
Our thrilling adventure kicks off early in the morning from the vibrant city of Riohacha, the capital of La Guajira. We will pick you up at your accommodation starting at 07:00 AM.
Following a journey of about 1 hour, we will reach the renowned Salinas de Manaure. Here, a local community guide will warmly welcome you and accompany you throughout the tour. The Manaure Salt Flats are a natural marvel where salt is traditionally harvested by hand. You’ll have the chance to explore the salt fields and understand the entire salt extraction process, from the evaporation of saltwater to its harvest and distribution both nationally and internationally.
During your visit to Manaure, you will also have a wonderful opportunity to engage with the local community and learn about their lifestyle, traditions, and the cultural significance of Artemia salina. Feel free to ask questions and delve into the rich heritage of the region.
Our journey continues with a 40-minute drive to Mayapo Beach. As we travel, you can enjoy the stunning beauty of the region, featuring desert landscapes and panoramic views.
At around 1 PM, we will arrive at María's restaurant, run by an entrepreneurial and passionate woman who has overcome many challenges. You'll savor local cuisine with a view of the serene Mayapo beach, providing a perfect setting to relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.
Post-lunch, you will have free time to explore Mayapo Beach. If you're fortunate, you might catch sight of athletes practicing kitesurfing, as this beach is known for its ideal winds for the sport.
Before departing, you will have the opportunity to visit the local communities associated with the Epiayú clan. Here, you can gain insights into their daily activities, such as fishing, crafting Wayúu art, and goat herding. You will also have the chance to purchase authentic crafts.
After a day filled with enriching and unique experiences, at 04:30 PM, we will commence our return journey to Riohacha, where we will drop you off at your original starting point.
