Tour Description

Our adventure kicks off bright and early at 05:30 am when we'll collect you in 4X4 vehicles from your accommodation in Riohacha. Remember to bring a reusable water bottle, sunscreen, and comfortable attire for the journey.
Our first destination is Las Salinas de Manaure, located to the north of the region, with a travel time of about one hour. Upon arrival, a local guide will welcome you and lead you through the salt extraction ponds. Here, you'll discover the artisanal methods of salt collection and its significance for the community.
Around 09:00 AM, we will proceed to Uribia, known as the indigenous capital of Colombia. For approximately one hour, you’ll immerse yourself in the Wayúu community's hospitality, learning about their customs and understanding the vital role of family and community. Explore the Uribia market, where the vibrant colors of Wayúu crafts and bags stand in stark contrast to the desert’s natural hues, creating a distinctive visual experience.
At 10:00 AM, we will hop back into the 4X4 and head towards Cabo de la Vela, a journey of about 2 hours. Use this time to escape the sun’s intensity while soaking in the scenic beauty of La Guajira.
Upon arrival at Cabo de la Vela, we will visit the Ojo de Agua, a natural lagoon amidst the desert. This oasis represents a remarkable blend of contrast and serenity, with fresh, crystalline waters emerging from the arid surroundings, offering a magical retreat for relaxation.
Next, we will head to the Faro, the highest point in Cabo de la Vela. This majestic landmark serves as a silent witness to the ocean's vastness and the sky's immensity, embodying the connection between earth and the cosmos. The Lighthouse is an architectural marvel that has guided sailors and explorers through the ages, surrounded by myths and an atmosphere that invites reflection and tranquility, offering breathtaking panoramic views of the sea and desert.
Around 01:00 PM, we'll pause for a well-earned break and enjoy a delicious traditional lunch at a local eatery. The meal, prepared by members of the Wayúu community, offers not only flavorful regional cuisine but also insights into local culture.
Following our meal, we’ll embark on a brief 15-minute hike to ascend Pilón de Azúcar, a holy site for the Wayúu people and a symbol of spiritual and ancestral connection. The hike provides an enriching experience with stunning vistas, and reaching the summit is a reward in itself. From this vantage point, Cabo de la Vela's scenery unfolds dramatically, with golden dunes, the Caribbean Sea, and the desert's expanse surrounding you.
After descending from Pilón de Azúcar, you can unwind at Playa Dorada and cool off with a refreshing swim in the Caribbean Sea.
By approximately 03:30 PM, we will start our journey back to Riohacha, a trek of about 3 hours. Use this time to relax and reflect on the day's experiences.
The adventure concludes with your return to your accommodation in Riohacha.
