Tour Description

Your adventure starts at 8:00 AM, departing from Riohacha. As you travel, you’ll take in the amazing scenery of La Guajira, renowned for its arid desert landscapes and remarkable biodiversity. We will make a short stop in Palomino, a well-known tourist spot, so you can capture the stunning beaches and where the Palomino River flows into the Caribbean Sea. If your accommodation is in Palomino, you may choose to begin your tour with a pick-up from that location.
At around 10:00 AM, we’ll reach Taironaka, where the Community Tourism group will greet you and provide an informative talk about local ecosystem conservation. This area is home to an incredible variety of wildlife, such as turtles, alligators, birds, and primates, along with a diverse range of flora. We’ll then set off on a walk to the upper part of the river, giving you the chance to observe the region’s native plants and animals. This trek offers breathtaking views of the snow-capped peaks of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, the world’s highest coastal mountain range.
At midday, we’ll discover Taironaka Park with guidance from knowledgeable local interpreters. Here, you’ll uncover the ancestral heritage of the region through visits to archaeological sites and a look at artifacts in the local museum, which showcase the life and traditions of the ancient Tayrona civilization. Following this, we’ll enjoy a traditional lunch at a local restaurant, where you can savor authentic regional cuisine crafted from fresh, local ingredients. This is the perfect opportunity to relax and refuel.
At 2:00 PM, our adventurous tubing ride down the Don Diego River begins, taking you all the way to the river’s mouth. Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and have the chance to spot the rich variety of flora and fauna that line the river’s banks. Tubing provides a unique blend of relaxation and excitement as you drift along the gentle current of the river. Upon arrival at the river mouth, take some free time to unwind, explore the surroundings, and snap photos of the spectacular meeting point between the river and the sea. This spot is ideal for capturing unforgettable memories and soaking in the peaceful atmosphere.
At 4:00 PM, we’ll begin our journey back to Riohacha, taking time to reflect on the remarkable natural and cultural experiences of the day. Expected arrival in Riohacha is at about 6:00 PM, concluding a day filled with unique and memorable adventures.
