Tour Description

Embark on an unforgettable full-day adventure exploring the northern region of Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, where you'll visit the quaint town of Porvenir and the King Penguin colony in Bahía Inútil.
Our journey begins bright and early at 7:00 a.m., departing from your hotel in Punta Arenas. We will head to the Tres Puentes terminal to catch a two-hour ferry ride to Porvenir on Isla Tierra del Fuego. This voyage takes us across the historic Strait of Magellan, a 583 km waterway connecting the Pacific Ocean with the Atlantic. In Porvenir, we'll explore the Fernando Cordero Rusque Museum, which showcases exhibits on local fauna, pioneering cinema in Chile, gold mining, and a collection of archaeology and ethnography from the Selknam, the ancient inhabitants of Patagonia.
After savoring a delightful local lunch, we will journey along the edge of Bahía Inútil, traversing an island that captivates with its vast pampas and endless horizons.
As we travel, you'll have the chance to observe a variety of birds, admire sheep farms, and spot herds of guanacos, a South American camelid related to llamas and alpacas. Approximately 114 km later, we'll arrive at the King Penguin Park, home to a permanent colony of this majestic species, second in size only to the emperor penguin.
These impressive penguins are exceptional divers, reaching great depths to hunt schools of squid. During the summer months, you may even catch a glimpse of some adorable chicks, offering a truly enchanting experience.
We will then depart the park and head towards Primera Angostura, the narrowest section of the strait, measuring just 5 km wide. A 20-minute ferry will take us back to the mainland, followed by a 200 km drive to return to Punta Arenas.
This is an extraordinary experience you simply cannot miss when visiting Magallanes!

There are no strict requirements to participate, but a basic level of fitness is recommended as some short, easy walks are part of the tour.
