Today, join us as we embark on a journey to uncover the Natural and Cultural Wonders during this trek through the Fray Jorge National Forest Park.
Our adventure will commence with a departure from La Serena at around 8:00 a.m. Prepare yourself to uncover the marvels awaiting us today. Dress comfortably and bring along the essentials. Remember to pack water and a camera to capture unforgettable moments, and keep your curiosity piqued to appreciate every detail.
We expect to arrive around 10:00 a.m. at the Trail in the Fray Jorge Forest, where we will delve into the region's sole "Hydrophilous Forest.” As we traverse a path approximately 1 kilometer long, we will ascend to the hilltop. Here, we will relish this natural treasure, designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO, unveiling its unique charm: a mystical, contemplative Valdivian forest, a gem harmonizing with the surrounding semi-arid landscape. Suitable for all trekking levels.
We will immerse ourselves in the forest's richness, sustained by the camanchaca, a dense fog that ascends from the sea, breathing life into this distinctive ecosystem. As we navigate the park's trails, we'll encounter native flora and fauna.
Around 12:30 p.m., our journey will lead us to Barraza, a colonial town that has preserved its allure since the 1800s. With cobblestone streets, vintage houses, and a touch of history, this town will transport us back in time. At approximately 2:00 p.m., our adventure continues as we visit an Archaeological Heritage Site. Here, we'll explore the Valle del Encanto National Monument, where history comes alive through petroglyphs and pictographs showcasing the rich tapestry of the Molle culture. We will uncover signs of ancient hunters dating back to 2000 BC, along with small stones narrating the stories of bygone cultures.
At around 5:00 p.m., we will commence our return to La Serena, our hearts filled with the day's unforgettable experiences and the sensations evoked by this exceptional natural setting.
