Tour Description
Today, we embark on an enchanting journey through La Serena and Coquimbo, where every corner unveils a tale and each view is a masterpiece.
Our adventure begins in the hotel lobby, setting the stage for a day filled with discoveries, history, colonial architecture, lively markets, coastal vistas, sea breezes, and an appreciation for local culture.
Our first stop is one of La Serena's most iconic spots, The picturesque Recova, which greets us with its delightful stalls. Next, we visit the historic Plaza de Armas and its colonial buildings, immersing us in the city's rich heritage with every step.
Continuing our delightful tour, we find peace in the Japanese Garden, an oasis of oriental aesthetics offering a tranquil escape within the city. Established in 1994 to celebrate La Serena's 450th anniversary, this garden serves as a community gift.
Having embraced the Japanese spirit in the heart of the city, we proceed to the Monumental Lighthouse, constructed between 1950 and 1951 by the Chilean Navy. Renowned as a "notable vertical urban landmark," it stands as a nationally acclaimed tourist spot with significant social value. Its aesthetic and architectural significance is highlighted by its proportions, height, and neo-colonial fortification style, harmoniously adapted to a lighthouse's architectural typology, characteristic of the Serena Plan.
We stroll along the beautiful and distinctive Avenida Del Mar, a symbol of the majestic bay linking La Serena and Coquimbo. Here, we catch glimpses of diverse culinary delights while relishing the sea breeze and panoramic views, offering guidance for your later culinary explorations.
Upon reaching Coquimbo, we meander along the scenic waterfront, experiencing the seamless blend of ocean and city. The Cross of the Third Millennium awaits us. This religious monument, located on Coquimbo's El Vigía Hill, commemorates the Catholic Church's 2000 jubilee. It provides a chance to ascend the museum, soaring over 200 meters above sea level, offering an unparalleled view of the entire city.
Descending from the cross, we head to the remarkable Fort Lambert, a testament to the region's military history. Situated in Coquimbo on Castillo del Carmen Hill, in the area known as Punta Pelícanos, this fortification overlooks an islet populated by pelicans just 40 meters off the coast.
Before our return journey, we explore Coquimbo's charming English Quarter, where history and the Buenos Aires lifestyle merge on every street. Nestled on the edge of Coquimbo's city center, the English Quarter is celebrated as the region's premier tourist, gastronomic, and heritage area. Daytime visitors are delighted by craft shops, bakeries, and cafes, while at night, nearly fifty restaurants, pubs, and nightclubs ignite the bohemian spirit of Coquimbo's port.
With hearts brimming with memories from these experiences, we return to the hotel. Every explored corner and uncovered story becomes a cherished memory of La Serena and Coquimbo, two treasures on the Chilean coast.
We eagerly await your participation in this splendid coastal urban adventure.
