The drive from Tinogasta to the Tatón Dunes takes us along the scenic National Route 60, a journey of about two hours. Along the way, we will encounter remarkable sights such as India del Portezuelo, the quaint village of El Puesto, the historic Watungasta Ruins, and a series of vast desert landscapes leading us to Fiambalá.
The Watungasta Ruins offer a captivating glimpse into the lives of the pre-Columbian cultures that once thrived in this region. Throughout the tour, our guide will provide insightful information about the rich history and culture of Catamarca.
Upon reaching the Tatón Dunes, you'll have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the stunning scenery, capture numerous photographs from various vantage points, and for those seeking adventure, enjoy sandboarding on the dunes.
Our expedition will then lead us to the Indio Canyon, where a medium-difficulty trek awaits. As we explore this ancient riverbed, now dry, you'll witness the awe-inspiring geological formations from the Quaternary period. The landscape, shaped by sedimentary rocks, wind, and rain, is a testament to nature's artistry.
During the trek, keep an eye out for native flora and fauna, including species such as cacti, jarillas, tolas, Andean birds, lizards, foxes, and even guanacos.
We'll begin our return to Tinogasta around 3 pm, arriving back at approximately 5 pm.
