Pumice Stone Field

The journey begins in Tinogasta, with passenger pickup from centrally located hotels starting at 5:00 am.

From Tinogasta, the trip follows Route 60 towards La Rioja, then continues on Routes 40 and 43 until reaching Villa Vil.

Leaving Villa Vil, the adventure proceeds for over 100 km on gravel roads to reach the stunning Campo de Piedra Pómez, passing through the town of El Peñón. Along the way, travelers can admire breathtaking scenery, including the Carachi Pampa Volcano, Laguna Blanca Hill, and the historic town of Londres, which is recognized as the second oldest settlement in Argentina.

At Campo de Piedra Pómez, we will spend about 1 hour and a half, giving you the chance to walk and explore this unique protected natural area that extends over 75,000 hectares at more than 3,000 meters above sea level. During your visit, the guide will share tips on capturing the best photos in this extraordinary, otherworldly landscape.

After exploring Campo de Piedra Pómez, we will head back to Tinogasta.

If the Carachi Pampa visit is part of your tour, the excursion will stop at the volcano, giving participants the opportunity to circle it and observe both the lagoon and the salt flat of the same name. These lagoons are home to flamingos, the only permanent residents, which feed on the algae and snails found in the highly alkaline waters.

The tour concludes with drop-off at the central hotels in Tinogasta at approximately 10:00 p.m.
