The Train to the Clouds (also called "Cloud Train" by many people) is a experience great to do in your trip to Salta. A train ride between mountains over 4200 meters high above sea level. The tour gives you the exclusive uphill train ride from San Antonio de los Cobres up to the famous VLa Polvorilla iaduct where we stop to take photos of the 63-meter-tall engineering marvel.

The excursion includes a first bus ride leaving from the capital of Salta to the train station that includes some stops to take photos of unique landscapes.
Then the adventure begins on board the train between arid hills in the highlands of Salta. The circuit on board the train is round trip to return to the same station from where it started and return by bus to the city where the tour originated.

To help you organize this trip we offer you two types of excursions, one that includes the bus trip and then the train, and another that only includes the train trip.

*BUS + TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS OPTION: The wrap will be in the Antofagasta Square at 6.00am. There the check-in of the trip will take place; remember to have your documentation and your previously purchased ticket.

The stops to be made during the tour are:

07.35am: Campo Quijano, 30km from the capital. There you can see the most emblematic engineering work of Salta: the C-14 railway branch.

08.05 hrs: Viaducto del Toro, located on the ravine that bears the same name.

09.25am: El Alfarcito, a place at 2,800 meters above sea level, where the tradition in the elaboration of local crafts is kept alive. Here you can enjoy a country breakfast and we will visit the craft fair. You will also visit the Fundación del Padre Chifri, an organization that helps to obtain resources and provides education and training to the inhabitants of the area.

This will be our last stop before reaching San Antonio de los Cobres.

11.40am: Meeting at the train station and boarding the emblematic Train to the Clouds. The train journey begins at 12 o`clock. 

1:00 p.m.: Polvorilla Viaduct, the most recognized image of this trip. It is the highest structure of the C-14 railway branch, at more than 4200 meters above sea level.

1:30 p.m.: Start the return to San Antonio de los Cobres, arriving at the station around 2.45pm and where you will have two hours to walk around and photograph the place.

4:30 p.m.: The return begins. After an hour of travel the last stop will be in the town of Santa Rosa de Tastil, where one of the largest archaeological sites in our country is located, it is estimated that it once housed approximately 3,000 people.

*TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS ONLY TICKET OPTION: This option is perfect if you want to do your own road trip; so you won`t miss out on the train experience, or pay a surcharge for a bus ride you won`t use.

You can find us at San Antonio de los Cobres Train Station where we embark on the Train to the Clouds which will take them to the La Polvorilla Viaduct.

In case you prefer this option, remember to bring your documents and train ticket and arrive at least 15 minutes before the train departs.
