Descripción del Tour:
After picking you up from your hotel, we`ll head by bus to the city center to hear an expert guide share the history of Salta. Founded in the 16th century by Spanish visionary Hernando de Lerma, Salta became a highly successful commercial center. See evidence of Salta`s heyday in the cathedrals and gold-plated mansions as the vehicle travels through the city. Today, Salta is known for its beautiful and well-preserved colonial architecture.
Upon arrival at the central plaza, gaze at the grand, twin-towered Salta Cathedral, built in 1885, and learn about national hero General Güemes, whose remains rest in the cathedral. Güemes fought against the Spanish during Argentina`s War of Independence.
Passing by the Cultural Center of the Americas, check out the Spanish colonial architecture of the viceroyalty of the Museo Histórico del Norte, located in the former cabildo, or city hall.
Admire the postcard-perfect San Francisco Church, with its towering white pillars supporting a crimson facade. Its purple bell tower is 174 feet (53 meters) tall, and the bell it holds was constructed from cannons used during the Battle of Salta.
The tour continues by the 16th-century San Bernardo Convent, one of the oldest buildings in the city, and the monument to General Güemes.
Leaving the city center toward the outskirts that border Salta, we will reach San Bernardo Hill, from where you can admire panoramic views of the city and the Andean peaks.
See the Battle of Salta monument and 20 de Febrero Park, built in commemoration of the battle fought and won here during the war for independence.
You will visit the nearby town of San Lorenzo, frequented by families from Salta during the summer due to its unusual subtropical microclimate.
Returning to Salta, the last stop will be at the Handicraft Market, located inside a traditional white colonial building, to browse the offerings of artisans who travel from all over the province to sell their wares here. Eat alfajores (caramel-filled cookies) and candied nuts, or shop for unique handbags, blankets, and jewelry (snacks and shopping at your own expense).
The tour ends with return to your hotel.
