Our journey kicks off with a pick-up at 8:30 am from centrally located hotels in San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca.
From there, we proceed along Nacional N° 38, guiding us to the majestic Cuesta de El Portezuelo. En route, we'll pause to admire the Monument to Felipe Varela, a homage to one of Catamarca's historical figures, positioned at the start of Provincial Route No. 1.
As we continue, we'll encounter the Monument to the Aborigines and the “Plaza Yacumama” (Mother Water), notable sites that honor the original inhabitants of these lands and reflect our cultural heritage.
After covering approximately 18 kilometers from the city, we begin our ascent up the Cuesta de Portezuelo, a winding 20 km road boasting over 300 curves, offering breathtaking views of the lush green landscapes.
As we traverse Cuesta, we'll take a break at its stunning natural balcony, situated at 1070 meters above sea level, to behold the thousand shades of green it offers. We'll then proceed along what is known as the Old Route.
Afterward, the excursion continues to Piedra Blanca, a town famed for hosting the Birthplace of the Esquiú family, designated a National Historic Monument since 1935, featuring furniture and artifacts belonging to Fray M. Esquiú, such as the bed, armchair, and other textile items used by the home's past residents. Here, you'll have about 30 minutes for an internal tour with a local guide.
Our final stop is along Route No. 1 at the Las Pirquitas Dam, the largest reservoir in the province, distinct for its construction materials. We will disembark for roughly 20 minutes to relish the stunning view this site offers.
After 4 hours, we will return to the city center to drop you off at your downtown hotel.
