We depart from the city of San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca at approximately 7:30 AM. Our journey takes us along National Route 38, where we pass by the historic train stations of Miraflores, Huillapima, and Chumbicha.
Continuing on, we enter the scenic Quebrada de la Cébila. Our next destination is Aimogasta in the province of La Rioja, a charming mountainous town known for its natural beauty, vineyards, and expansive olive plantations. Just 4 kilometers away, in Arauco, we encounter a 400-year-old olive tree, a testament to the origins of Argentine olive cultivation.
Leaving Cerro Negro behind, we arrive in London, a historic town known as the first city in Catamarca. This location, with nearly 400 years of history, offers a glimpse into the past. From here, we proceed to the El Shincal Ruins, a significant archaeological site filled with mysteries waiting to be uncovered. A guide will provide insights into the importance of this remarkable repository of our indigenous heritage.
Our adventure continues to Belén, a picturesque town renowned for its high-quality crafts, particularly llama and vicuña textiles. We will visit the homes of local weavers to witness the creation of these garments on traditional indigenous looms. We will pause to enjoy lunch (not included).
