Tour Description
Once we pick you up from your hotel located in the city of Trujillo, we will head towards the Chicama Valley, situated approximately 33 kilometers north of Trujillo. Our destination is the El Brujo archaeological complex, a site of the Mochica culture.
Excavations began here in 1990, unveiling the Huaca Cao Viejo, a pyramid soaring 46 meters high. Its walls are adorned with friezes and colorful reliefs depicting intricate scenes and geometric patterns. This ancient site features three principal monuments: Huaca Prieta, Huaca Cao Viejo, and Huaca Cortada.
The Wiese Foundation, in collaboration with National Geographic, has showcased the remarkable discovery of a tomb belonging to a pre-Columbian woman and leader from the fourth century.
We will visit the Museum of Cao, where you can admire astonishing artifacts from ancient times. Here, we invite you to uncover the enigma of the mummy discovered in this extraordinary site: The Lady of Cao, dating back roughly 1,700 years. The mummy has remarkably remained intact due to an ancient ritual.
Following this unforgettable experience, we will make a final stop in the quaint town of Magdalena de Cao, located 5 kilometers from the El Brujo complex. Here, you can savor a traditional beverage known as Chicha de Jora, fermented for a year using ancestral techniques.
After the tour, we will return you to the city of Trujillo and drop you off at the Plaza de Armas.
