This area is a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts, featuring breathtaking landscapes with lush greenery, awe-inspiring waterfalls, mysterious underground caves, and soothing hot springs.
Your journey to the Alto Mayo Valley begins in the city of Rioja, situated 87 miles north of Tarapoto. After traveling for over two hours, we will reach the source of the Tioyacu River.
This delightful recreational site offers opportunities for bathing in the crystal-clear waters of the Yacu River or leisurely strolls across the wooden bridge. The natural surroundings promise an enjoyable experience.
Following the Tioyacu visit, our next stop is the tourist center known as Chacra Vieja. Here, you can sample traditional drinks and purchase local crafts. Later, savor a typical lunch featuring regional dishes made with fresh ingredients. Post-lunch, we will head to the city of orchids, Moyobamba, to explore the orchidarium.
Moyobamba, a city in the region of San Martín, boasts 1,500 orchid varieties in various shapes and colors. Within the Alto Mayo Protected Area, around 300 orchid species have been documented. At this extraordinary nursery, you can admire these splendid plants, guided by a professional, and even purchase one if you wish.
