Tour Description
The Ballestas Islands tour kicks off in the morning after optionally picking you up from your hotel in Paracas and heading to El Chaco dock, the starting point for the boat excursion to the Ballestas Islands. Once on board, we'll embark on an unforgettable journey to these stunning islands.
Situated just 30 minutes from the Paracas coastline in Pisco province, Ica department, these islands are renowned tourist spots thanks to their unique ecosystem and remarkable wildlife.
During the trip, you'll witness the enigmatic lines etched into the sand forming a candelabrum. This ancient geoglyph, spanning 590 feet, is approximately 2,500 years old. The purpose behind its creation on the dune of the Paracas National Reserve remains a mystery, though some studies suggest a connection to the Nazca Lines.
We'll proceed with the tour until we reach the Ballestas Islands, a natural reserve featuring striking geological formations, rocky outcrops, and diverse wildlife. Here, you'll encounter Humboldt penguins, sea lions, and various birds like the pelican, among other species inhabiting the archipelago.
The tour of the Islands and the Paracas peninsula is truly awe-inspiring, promising an experience in Paracas that will leave you amazed.
Thanks to the abundance of resident and migratory birds, these islands boast the finest natural fertilizer in the world: guano. Among the guano-producing birds, you'll spot species like the booby, tendril, and guanay. Between 1845 and 1866, Peru harnessed guano to bolster its economy.
As the tour concludes, we'll return to the dock and then offer an optional drop-off service at your hotel in Paracas.
