Tour Description
We will collect you from your hotel in downtown Iquitos and proceed to the Bellavista Nanay port to begin a captivating journey along the river, showcasing breathtaking views of the city and the Tarapacá Boardwalk.
Our voyage will take us along the Nanay River until we reach the shores of the Padre Cocha community. Shortly thereafter, we will arrive at the Pilpintuwasi Butterfly Farm, a wildlife rescue center established in 2004. This center is not only Peru’s sole butterfly breeding facility but also a refuge for a diverse array of rescued animals, including monkeys and other species.
This enchanting sanctuary is home to a remarkable variety of butterflies in different sizes and hues, all fluttering freely within a specially designed greenhouse. "Pilpintuwasi" translates to "butterfly house" in Quechua.
Our adventure continues with a boat trip to the Morón River, where we will visit the Kukama Kukamiria community. Here, you will discover their customs, experience their traditional dances, and delve into their ancestral culture. This indigenous group settled in the area nearly 200 years before the Spanish arrival and primarily depends on fishing and agriculture.
We will also visit the native Bora tribe, where you will meet indigenous families who maintain their age-old traditions. Their homes are constructed in an octagonal shape, reflecting their ancient beliefs. You will have the opportunity to admire their handcrafted artworks, participate in their traditional dances, and explore their local farms.
The excursion continues with a visit to the "Serpentario" Rescue Center, a natural haven where you will encounter some of the Amazon jungle's most fascinating and feared snakes. You will gain insights into their behavior, ecological significance, and discover other exotic species.
Subsequently, we will have the chance to sample traditional aphrodisiac cocktails from the region, such as "Siete Raíces" and "Rompe Calzón," among others.
Next, we will explore the Insectarium, a distinctive exhibit similar to a zoo, showcasing insects including spiders, ants, beetles, scorpions, and more.
To conclude our tour, we will indulge in a traditional lunch at a restaurant offering stunning views of the Peruvian jungle (drinks not included). Finally, we will return to the Boulevard Port in Iquitos and drop you off at the tour’s final stop, just a block away from the Plaza de Armas.
