Descripción del Tour
This charming Andean village boasts a remarkable architectural treasure from the seventeenth century, the renowned Sistine Chapel. Adorned with awe-inspiring gold leaf and paintings from the Cusco art school, it is truly a sight to behold.
Inside the Church of San Pedro de Andahuaylillas, you'll find an exquisite collection of Baroque-style artwork gracing the ceilings and walls, many pieces crafted by the Peruvian artist Luis de Reaño. This destination undoubtedly deserves a spot on your travel bucket list.
The bus ride continues for an hour and a half, leading us to our second stop, the archaeological site of Raqchi, situated at 3,450 meters above sea level. Here, the temple of Wiracocha, constructed alongside the Vilcanota River in the fifteenth century, features colossal walls that once belonged to temples, as well as aqueducts and tombs.
Raqchi is home to circular storehouses known as Colcas, historically used for storing various grains such as quinoa, potato, and corn. Additionally, Raqchi forms part of the extraordinary Inca Trail.
Our bus journey to Puno proceeds to the city of Sicuani, where we will savor a buffet lunch at a local restaurant offering a variety of local and regional dishes, vegetables, desserts, and hot beverages like coca tea.
Post lunch, a 40-minute bus ride brings us to the highest point of our tour, La Raya Pass, located at 4,335 meters above sea level. This marks the border between the cities of Cusco and Puno, where we will pause briefly to admire the snow-capped Chimboya and capture stunning landscape photos.
Our final visit takes us to the Museum of Pucara, following a journey of over an hour from La Raya Pass. The museum showcases an impressive collection of monoliths, stone sculptures, and ceramics from the Pucara culture, a civilization that thrived in the highlands of Peru and Bolivia.
In conclusion, we will board the tourist bus for a further two-hour drive to the city of Puno. As we travel, you'll enjoy mesmerizing landscapes of the Andes' heart, passing through the city of Juliaca before arriving at the bus station of Puno at 5:00 p.m.
