Tour Description

Day 1: Arrival in El Calafate

Upon arriving at El Calafate airport or bus terminal, you will be greeted and transferred to your hotel.

The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at leisure.

Day 2: Mini Hike on the Perito Moreno Glacier (Mini trekking is available from early August to early June)

Los Glaciares National Park

After breakfast at your hotel, your private guide will escort you to the embarkation pier at "Bajo de las Sombras" port, located about 6 km before the glacier balconies, where you'll embark on a 20-minute navigation across Brazo Rico with breathtaking views of the Perito Moreno glacier’s front wall.

Disembark on the opposite shore where specialized bilingual mountain guides will greet you and lead you to a small shelter. After final preparations, you will proceed along the lake’s shore to the glacier's edge.

Once on the ice, the guide will equip each participant with crampons and provide instructions for their use. The two-hour circuit introduces you to the mesmerizing landscape of the glacier: streams, small lagoons, gullies, crevasses, and stunning ice formations in incredible blues.

The ice surface is irregular but firm and safe.

You will receive insights into the region’s flora, fauna, and general glaciology, as well as the unique phenomenon that leads to the rupture of the Perito Moreno Glacier.

After the trek, a walk through the forest returns you to the shelter. Your guide will then take you back to your hotel.

Free night

Day 3: Gourmet Cruise and Glacier Navigation

Los Glaciares National Park

After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will pick you up for a trip to the company’s private dock “La Soledad” (Bahía Tranquila, Paraje Punta Bandera). Boarding is at 9:00 a.m.

The navigation heads northwest, crossing Punta Avellaneda and Boca del Diablo, the lake’s narrowest passage at nearly 800 meters wide.

After two hours of navigation, the array of ice floes in varying colors and shapes comes into view. We will pause in front of the ice floe barrier currently blocking the entrance to Canal Upsala. If weather permits, we will observe the Upsala glaciers from a distance.

We continue navigating Lago Argentino southward, entering the Canal Spegazzini to approach the glacier bearing the same name. The navigation will bring us close to the glacier, with front walls rising between 80 and 135 meters (262 – 443 feet) above lake level.

Gourmet Lunch will be served amidst this breathtaking scenery.

In the afternoon, the cruise will dock at Puesto de Las Vacas (a serene bay in the Canal Spegazzini) where engines are stopped to allow for an enjoyable walk coordinated by our guides. This stop offers spectacular panoramic views of the Spegazzini glacier.

Upon returning onboard, we will head back through Brazo Norte to the La Soledad dock by 6:00 p.m., where your guide will escort you back to your hotel after an unforgettable day.

Free night.

Day 4: Farewell to El Calafate

After enjoying breakfast at your hotel, you will have some free time before your guide picks you up for transfer to the airport or bus terminal.

The best time for this tour in Patagonia is from October to April (spring–summer), with long days, more sailing trips, and mild (10–20°C) weather, although windy. September, March, and April offer spectacular scenery and fewer crowds. In winter (June–August), there are fewer services, low temperatures (0–8°C), and possible snowfall, ideal for travelers seeking tranquility and competitive rates. The Patagonian wind can blow strongly year-round; dress in layers and bring a waterproof jacket. Book well in advance during peak season. Check the forecast to optimize excursions to the Perito Moreno Glacier and sailing trips on Lake Argentino.

A recommended itinerary for a deluxe tour package in El Calafate is 3 to 5 days. Day 1: Arrival at FTE Airport, transfer, and free time to explore the city center or the Glaciarium. Day 2: Excursion to Los Glaciares National Park, including the Perito Moreno Glacier walkways and an optional short boat trip. Day 3: Full-day boat tour of the Glaciers/Ice Rivers or visit to Estancia Cristina. Day 4: Premium activities (mini-trekking, 4x4 excursion to Balcones, horseback riding, or kayaking). Highlights of a trip to El Calafate include: walkways on the Perito Moreno Glacier, the Safari Náutico or All Glaciers/Ice Rivers boat tours on Lake Argentino, and visits to ranches with a traditional Patagonian barbecue. For adventure, consider mini-trekking on ice (age and fitness limits often apply) or the more challenging Big Ice experience. Other options include 4x4 tours to Balcones del Calafate, horseback riding, hikes to viewpoints, kayaking, and the Glaciarium Museum. Many activities are very popular during peak season; book in advance. Check health requirements, mandatory equipment, and weather-related operating policies. Travel insurance is highly recommended.

Luxury tours in El Calafate are typically confirmed with a deposit, with the balance due before departure via credit card or bank transfer. Upon confirmation, you will receive a voucher, itinerary, and transfer schedule. Change and cancellation policies vary depending on the fare and advance notice: more notice allows for greater flexibility; cancellations made within 48–72 hours may incur penalties or no-shows. If weather affects an excursion, the operator will attempt to reschedule or issue a credit, subject to availability. Flights and insurance are usually not included. To guarantee pricing and availability, book in advance and review the terms and conditions of your package.
