Descripción del Tour:
- Meeting Point in La Candelaria
We will meet in the heart of the historic district, at Parque de los Periodistas, where our bilingual coordinator will greet you with a warm welcome. We will give you an introduction to the tour and some recommendations to make the most of your experience.
- Gold Museum and Plaza Santander
In front of the imposing Gold Museum, you will learn why this place houses one of the most important collections of pre-Hispanic pieces in Latin America (admission is optional, not included). A few steps away is Plaza Santander, surrounded by modern buildings and urban meeting spaces. There you will learn more about the legacy of General Francisco de Paula Santander and the importance of this point in the historical development of Bogotá.
- Plaza de Bolívar
You will enter the political heart of Colombia. Plaza de Bolívar is a must-see in Bogotá: surrounded by the National Capitol, the Primada Cathedral, the Palace of Justice and the Liévano Palace, this square has witnessed the most significant events in the country`s history. The guide will share anecdotes about the founding of the city, its transformations and the social movements that have left their mark on this place.
- Calle del Coliseo
We will continue along this charming colonial street that connects Plaza de Bolívar with the more traditional alleys of La Candelaria. Colorful houses, murals, artisan shops, and historic architecture will accompany you on this part of the tour, ideal for enjoying the local atmosphere and taking unforgettable photos.
- Visit a Local Museum
You will enter one of the museums in the area (depending on availability), such as the Botero Museum or the Casa de la Moneda. There, you will get a closer look at the history of Colombian art or modern artistic expressions, all in intimate and well-preserved spaces that reflect the cultural richness of the city.
- Coffee, Amasijo, and Local Fruit Tasting
We will pause to savor the best of Colombian coffee prepared by hand. You will learn about its process, aroma, and flavor. We`ll accompany the drink with a typical amasijo—traditional Andean bakery made with corn or cassava—and fresh seasonal fruit. A delicious experience that connects you with the country`s native flavors.
- Chorro de Quevedo
You`ll explore the place many consider the founding point of Bogotá. El Chorro de Quevedo is a small square full of history and mysticism. Its bohemian atmosphere, street musicians, and urban artists invite you to breathe in the authentic spirit of the city. Here you`ll learn about the indigenous cultures that inhabited the area and the early days of colonial Bogotá.
- Plaza La Concordia
We`ll continue to this renovated local market, surrounded by colonial architecture, galleries, and terraces with spectacular views of the eastern hills. The square is ideal for observing local life, visiting the fruit market, or simply enjoying the tranquility amidst the urban hustle and bustle.
- Emerald Workshop
We close the tour with a brief but fascinating introduction to the world of Colombian emeralds. You`ll learn about their geological origin, how they are extracted and polished, and why they are so valued worldwide. This space is also a great opportunity to purchase authentic souvenirs and learn more about the fair and sustainable trade of these precious stones.
