Tour Description
Today, our adventure will commence with a visit to Ahu Vaihu and Akahanga. The ahu are sacred sites consisting of stone platforms or altars where collections of moai are situated. Set against cliffs where ocean waves dramatically crash, Ahu Vaihu boasts a breathtaking view. In contrast, the Ahu Akahanga site remains unrestored, offering a glimpse into the island's condition as discovered by its earliest explorers.
Our journey will proceed to Rano Raraku, a fascinating volcanic crater formed by solidified ash, featuring an internal lagoon. It is here that the enigmatic moai were meticulously carved, with 397 statues still incomplete.
Next, we will explore Ahu Tongariki, a grand 200-meter-long ceremonial platform hosting 15 colossal moai. Additionally, we'll visit Ahu Te Pito Kura, home to the awe-inspiring Moai Paro, the island's largest statue standing at 10 meters tall and weighing 85 tons.
At this location, you'll also encounter a large spherical stone known as the navel of the world, or Te Pito o Te Henua.
To cap off our day perfectly, we'll enjoy a refreshing break at Anakena, the island's most beloved beach. Aside from its natural allure, it features an impressive row of moai gazing towards the sea, adding to its uniqueness. Here, you can relish your lunch or box lunch (not included, but available upon request).
Afterward, we'll head back to the heart of Hanga Roa or your hotel, based on your preference.
Undoubtedly, this is the finest way to gain a comprehensive understanding of the island, immersing yourself in its culture, traditions, and inhabitants.
