San Juan is a province brimming with attractions and must-see locations. If you've already embarked on our excursions to the Talampaya and Ischigualasto parks, then the breathtaking Tour to the Valley of Calingasta and Barreal is a must.
This journey not only allows you to further explore the remarkable terrain and geography of the province, but also includes a visit to the Astronomical Complex El Leoncito, the most significant observatory in South America.
Tour Description
We will set off at 7 AM from our designated hotels, heading towards the tranquil town of Calingasta. This charming locale invites you to wander its mountain trails, relishing in the locals' warm hospitality and engaging in a variety of activities.
As we travel, we'll have the opportunity to enjoy breathtaking natural viewpoints and designated rest areas. Our journey takes us to Barreal, nestled within Calingasta, as we traverse the picturesque Quebrada de Las Burras. Our adventure continues to Pampa El Leoncito, a renowned plain famous for sand yachting, where wind-powered, three-wheeled vehicles glide across the landscape.
We will explore the Pampa El Leoncito Astronomical Complex, situated in a vast 70,000-hectare Astronomical Reserve. With 270 to 300 clear nights annually, it is an ideal location for celestial studies and is the most significant astronomical facility in both Argentina and South America.
Our 45-minute guided tour will allow us to delve into the facilities of the "Jorge Sahade" telescope, view captivating astronomical images, and attend a concise informative session.
On our return to San Juan, we'll enjoy a panoramic view of Cerro Alcázar, taking a stroll through its uniquely beautiful formations.
Concluding this fascinating excursion, we aim to arrive back at our selected hotels in San Juan around 8 PM.
