Tour Description

The Campo de Piedra Pómez tour kicks off with our team picking you up directly from your accommodation in Fiambalá.
This excursion is predominantly cross-country, injecting a sense of adventure into the experience. As we navigate the scenic, mountainous route, we'll ford the river en route to the charming village of Las Papas.
Las Papas is a mountain village with a population of no more than 50, all descendants of the Diaguitas, the region's indigenous people. Here, we will pause to explore the village and stroll through its streets. On our journey to Campo de Piedra Pómez, we will encounter the Papas River, crossing it over 80 times.
After our stop, we will proceed for another 30 kilometers. During this leg of the trip, we will pass by the Los Baños Hot Springs and the Los Hornos Hot Springs. If road conditions allow, we may take a break here.
As we continue, we will come across Lagunilla, known locally as the Alumbrera Lagoon, and traverse sandbanks leading to the entrance of the San Buenaventura mountain range.
The challenge of traveling almost 4km uphill on sand is rewarded with the breathtaking arrival at the remarkable Campo de Piedra Pómez, where we can marvel at the unique geological structures and soak in the area's natural beauty.
After spending about an hour and a half exploring, taking photos, and appreciating the site, we will begin our journey back to Fiambalá.
