Frequently Asked Questions

Airport-to-hotel transfers in Santa Cruz typically include arrival reception at Seymour Airport (GPS), baggage assistance, and authorized tourist transportation to your accommodation in Puerto Ayora. Depending on the service (shared or private), it may combine an internal airport bus, a ferry crossing across the Itabaca Channel, and ground transportation on the island. Passenger insurance and a local driver/guide are often provided. Verify if ferry and bus fares are included, as well as any stops along the way or door-to-door service. Also confirm the language of service, operating hours, and whether your hotel is within the service area.

The total travel time from the airport to your hotel in Santa Cruz is typically 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on flight schedules, wait times, and passenger volume. The typical itinerary includes: 1) a short transfer from the Baltra Airport terminal to the Itabaca Channel; 2) a ferry/barge crossing (5–10 minutes); and 3) a road trip across the island to Puerto Ayora (45–60 minutes). During peak season, there may be queues for the ferry and increased traffic on the main road. If your hotel is located outside the city center or in a remote area, the transfer may be longer and/or require an additional distance surcharge.

Airport-hotel transfers in Santa Cruz operate daily and are usually scheduled to coincide with commercial flight arrival times. To ensure availability, especially during peak season (June–September and December–January), it is recommended to book at least 48–72 hours in advance, indicating your flight number, estimated arrival time, and hotel name. The provider will confirm the meeting point in the arrivals hall via email or electronic voucher. Shared transfers may have a reasonable waiting window to group passengers. In case of flight delays, the agency will typically rebook you on the next available service, subject to prior arrangement.

Generally, one standard-sized suitcase and one carry-on bag per passenger are allowed on shared services; additional, bulky, or sports equipment (e.g., diving gear) may incur extra charges and must be declared when booking. Ferry crossings and vehicle changes involve handling luggage, so it is recommended to clearly label it. Passengers with reduced mobility should notify us in advance; some services offer assistance, priority seating, or suitable vehicles (subject to availability). Please remember the Galapagos National Park regulations: SICGAL inspection and restrictions on the entry of fresh produce, seeds, and wildlife; drones and pets require specific permits.

The cost of transfers in the Galapagos Islands varies depending on the type of service (private or shared), time of day, group size, and hotel location. Payment can usually be made by credit/debit card, bank transfer, or secure payment gateways; some agencies accept full prepayment to guarantee your booking. Check if local taxes (such as the Itabaca Channel ferry or other tolls) are included or payable at your destination. Cancellation policies typically allow changes or partial refunds up to 24–48 hours in advance; no-shows may be non-refundable. In case of flight rescheduling, contact the provider to rebook, subject to availability.
