Tour Description
DAY 1: Arrival in El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
Upon your arrival at the bus terminal, you will be greeted and transferred to your centrally located hotel. The rest of the day is yours to explore or relax at your own pace.
Day 2: Cagliero Glacier Trekking in El Chaltén:
El Chaltén
At 9:00 a.m., we will begin our trekking adventure by following the Diablo River upstream. This two-hour hike takes you through a beautiful lenga forest along a well-marked trail, leading to Laguna del Diablo at 770 meters above sea level.
Around 11:00 a.m., the second phase of the excursion starts, circling the northern edge of Laguna del Diablo over easy yet uneven terrain until reaching the start of a via ferrata—a low-difficulty rock-climbing section. This segment is 1 km long with a 200-meter elevation gain.
After about an hour, we will arrive at the glacier viewpoint, offering spectacular views of the remote Cagliero South Glacier (950 meters above sea level). From the viewpoint, a brief walk takes us to the glacier front, where guides will fit crampons to your boots for the third stage: glacier walking and trekking. Time spent on the glacier is approximately 2 hours, depending on weather and group fitness.
We will return along the same route, arriving back at the information center about 3 hours later. The transfer from El Chaltén will meet us at 5:30 p.m., with arrival at your hotel expected around 6:30 p.m.
Day 3: El Chaltén Rafting:
El Chaltén
After everyone receives their rafting equipment, guides will lead you to the river access point, where you'll get a thorough briefing on rafting techniques and safety measures.
Once you have practiced paddling techniques and safety maneuvers, the group boards the raft and the adventure begins. The first stretch covers four kilometers of calm, winding waters with breathtaking views of Fitz Roy behind you—perfect for getting comfortable with the raft and learning the basic paddling skills needed for the next section.
The second part navigates the ravine area. After the initial rapid, you’ll encounter a series of exhilarating rapids for 8 km. The river's speed makes the raft surge and dip through crystal-clear waters—a thrilling way to connect with nature. The journey ends with a final 2 km stretch of gentle waters.
Day 4: Lago del Desierto Navigation with Trekking:
Vespignani Glacier:
We depart El Chaltén and travel 36 km by bus to Lago del Desierto, following a scenic road that winds through forests and along the Río de las Vueltas.
From the Punta Sur dock, we board a boat for a 30-minute navigation, viewing the Huemul and Crestón glaciers before landing at the Vespignani Glacier area in the heart of the lake.
Upon arrival, we begin the trekking experience, always under the guidance of an activity supervisor for your safety. You can choose from several well-marked trails within the Vespignani Glacier Reserve, based on your preferred level of difficulty and effort:
The most challenging trail takes about 45 minutes at a leisurely pace, overcoming 150 meters of elevation to reach the base of Vespignani Glacier and offering an incredible view of the north face of Mount Fitz Roy.
An intermediate trail is also available, leading you in just 15 minutes up a gentle, steady slope to an excellent panoramic viewpoint of the glacier.
After enjoying a farewell snack, we return by boat to Punta Sur pier. From there, the bus brings us back to El Chaltén.
Day 5: Farewell El Chaltén
El Chaltén
In the morning, after breakfast, check out from your hotel and enjoy some free time until your transfer picks you up for your journey to the El Chaltén bus terminal.
