Tour Description

Juma Amazon Lodge offers different activities to discover the Amazon, all accompanied by a bilingual local guide.

Meeting of the Waters

On the way to Juma, we stop to admire the magnificent Meeting of the Waters, where the turbid waters of the Solimões River meet the dark waters of the Negro River. At this point, the two rivers, with different speeds, temperatures, and densities, flow side by side for several kilometers without mixing, until they merge to form the great Amazon River.

Canoe trip

The canoe trip allows you to explore the igarapés (small Amazonian waterways) and igapós (flooded forests) up close, an experience only possible in canoes. During the journey, you`ll hear the mysterious sounds of the rainforest.

Visit to the observation tower

Take in the breathtaking views of the Juma region from our 31-meter observation tower. In addition to enjoying stunning vistas, you`ll learn more about how the hotel was built and how we work to promote sustainability, particularly through the use of solar photovoltaic energy.

Night excursion

We head out at dusk to observe frogs, birds, and, above all, caimans. The guide will use only a flashlight to help us locate them, making the experience even more exciting. The nighttime sounds of the jungle are also breathtaking, as is the starry sky.

Sunrise on the Juma River

Early in the morning, we`ll witness the mesmerizing changes in the sky`s colors and listen to the sounds of birds awakening. The guides will have binoculars to enhance the experience and facilitate birdwatching.

Jungle hike

During this educational hike through the rainforest, your expert guide will introduce you to the flora and fauna of the Amazon. They will also show you different plants and explain their uses, as many have medicinal properties or are edible. The trails used for the hikes are constantly being maintained to prevent damage to the forest.

Piranha fishing

We`ll board a motorboat to fish and learn more about the famous piranhas, as well as other Amazonian fish species. Fishing is usually easier during the dry season, as the fish can`t take refuge in flooded areas, as they often do during the rainy season.

Talk about the Amazon

Enjoy an informal talk led by one of our experienced local guides, who will share insights into daily life in the Amazon, its stories and legends, as well as the region`s culture, fauna, and flora. We also have a professional microscope available to make the experience more interactive and engaging.

Jungle hike with grilled lunch

After a longer hike, with fewer stops along the way, we`ll arrive at a tapiri (traditional indigenous shelter), where we`ll enjoy a regional lunch cooked over a fire. Afterward, we`ll relax in hammocks, just like the locals do.

Visit the local inhabitants

An indigenous representative from the region will share his knowledge of traditional medicinal plants and demonstrate, among other activities, how to make cassava flour, one of the region`s main products and an important driver of its economy.

Planting of native trees

We will provide visitors with native tree seedlings to plant, raising awareness about the importance of preserving the world`s largest tropical rainforest. At the end, each visitor will receive a certificate with the name of the tree species they planted.

Visit to a sumaúma tree

We will visit a giant sumaúma tree, approximately 100 years old. The sumaúma is recognized as one of the largest tree species in the Amazon, both for its height and the diameter of its trunk, and can reach up to 40 meters in height.

Tree climbing

This activity is organized by Amazon Tree Climbing, a specialized company that pioneered recreational tree climbing in Brazil. Using ropes and pulleys, we will ascend trees up to 40 meters high, reaching their canopies. It`s a unique opportunity to explore some of the largest trees in the Amazon from above.

Hike to a giant cedar

We will take a shorter walk through an area with different species of trees, highlighting a huge cedar considered one of the largest in the Amazon.

Night in the Jungle

After dinner, we will accompany guests to a secluded area of the jungle where they will spend the night in hammocks inside our tapiri (traditional indigenous shelter). Sleeping among the trees, surrounded by the sounds of animals, is an authentic, fascinating, and unforgettable experience.

The selection of activities will depend on the number of nights booked.
