Frequently Asked Questions

The Classic Paracas tour typically begins at the Paracas pier with prior check-in. You'll then board a speedboat to the Ballestas Islands (approximately 2 hours). En route, you'll see the Candelabro geoglyph and, once at the archipelago, marine wildlife such as sea lions, Humboldt penguins, and guano birds. Depending on the option booked, a visit to the Paracas National Reserve by vehicle may be added, with stops at viewpoints and iconic beaches like Playa Roja (Red Beach). The typical duration is half a day (Ballestas only) or a full day if it includes bookings or transfers from Lima. Included services (bilingual guide, entrance fees, transfers) vary by provider; please review the tour details before booking.

The excursion operates year-round thanks to Paracas' desert climate. The best time for the boat trip to the Ballestas Islands is in the morning (approximately 7:30–10:30), when the sea is usually calmer and the "Paracas" wind is less intense. From December to March, the weather is warmer and clearer; from May to November, mornings can be foggy and the temperatures cooler. Marine wildlife viewing is good in any season. For safety reasons, the operator may reschedule or cancel due to rough seas or reduced visibility; in such cases, a date change or alternative options are generally offered according to the current policy.

To enjoy the Classic Paracas tour, pack layered clothing and a windbreaker, a hat or cap, high-SPF sunscreen, UV sunglasses, and comfortable shoes. You might get splashed on the boat: protect your camera or phone with a waterproof case and bring a small towel. If you are prone to seasickness, take preventative medication beforehand. Pack reusable water bottles, light snacks, and cash for possible port fees or personal expenses. Don't forget your ID/passport and travel insurance. For sustainability, please do not feed the wildlife or litter, and avoid flying drones without a permit in the Paracas National Reserve.

The tour is suitable for travelers of all ages and families, provided children are accompanied by an adult. Safety is a priority: life jackets are worn and the boats are operated by certified captains. However, boarding and boat seating may not be suitable for people with reduced mobility; please check accessibility before booking. Those with severe back or neck problems, or women in advanced stages of pregnancy, should discuss their participation with their doctor and the tour operator. The service typically includes tour guides who speak both Spanish and English. Always follow the guide's instructions for responsible ecotourism.

The price of the Classic Paracas tour varies depending on the season, departure point (Paracas or Lima), type of tour (shared or private), and inclusions (transfers, entrance fees to the Reserve, port taxes). We recommend booking online in advance, especially on weekends, holidays, and during peak season. Upon completing your purchase, you will receive a confirmation and electronic voucher. Operators typically accept credit cards and other secure payment methods. Cancellation and change policies vary by provider; many require 24–48 hours' notice and offer rescheduling or refunds in case of bad weather. Always review the tour's "Terms and Conditions" section before paying.
