Tour Description
We will commence our journey bright and early at 4:30 am, with a pickup from your hotel situated in the heart of Cali. From there, we will travel by private vehicle to the port of Buenaventura, famously known as the gateway to the Colombian Pacific. As we traverse the route, you'll witness the changing landscapes, transitioning from highlands to coastal areas, setting the stage for an exhilarating day ahead.
Upon reaching Buenaventura, we'll board a boat to navigate the Pacific waters toward Juanchaco. This charming fishing village will serve as our launch point for whale watching and the start of our coastal adventures. During the boat ride, you can relish the breathtaking panoramic views of the coast and the ocean, gearing up for an encounter with nature in its most awe-inspiring form.
In Juanchaco, our team of local guides and native whale-watching experts will welcome us. We will set out on another specialized boat for a whale-watching expedition, heading to areas where humpback whales are commonly seen this time of year. Our guides will be vigilant in spotting the whales and ensuring a close yet respectful interaction with these magnificent marine creatures.
September is a remarkable month for observing the energetic behavior of the whales, particularly since at two months old, they are especially playful and visible during their leaps and splashes. Besides humpback whales, you might also catch sight of other species like pelicans, bottlenose and spotted dolphins, tuna, and sea turtles, adding more depth to this extraordinary experience in the Colombian Pacific.
After the thrilling whale watching, we will explore the nearby caves and cliffs. Depending on the tide and day's conditions, these spots offer breathtaking views of the coastal scenery and provide ideal opportunities to capture stunning photographs of the region's wildlife.
We will take a break to enjoy a delicious lunch, and then relax and soak in the natural surroundings. We'll have leisure time on the delightful Juanchaco beach, where you can swim in the crystal-clear waters, sunbathe on the sand, or simply unwind, embracing the serene beauty of the seascape.
Concluding our day in Juanchaco, we will return by boat to Buenaventura and subsequently travel by private vehicle back to Cali. We anticipate being back in Cali by approximately 8:30 pm, dropping you off at your hotel with cherished memories of your whale-watching adventure in Bahía Málaga.
