Tour Description
The adventure kicks off at 5:30 AM with a hotel pick-up service in Bucaramanga's metropolitan area. The three-hour journey to the Santurbán Páramo offers a chance to appreciate a vibrant mountainous landscape, with a brief stop for a traditional breakfast to energize you for the day ahead.
When we reach the páramo, we'll be in one of Colombia's most vital ecosystems. Situated at an elevation exceeding 3,000 meters, the Santurbán Páramo is a genuine "water factory" benefiting millions, as its 26 lagoons provide essential water resources to rivers and communities across two provinces.
We'll embark on a 40-minute hike to Laguna Negra, traversing trails lined with frailejones, the iconic plants of the moorlands that can live for up to 300 years. Throughout the excursion, your guide will highlight the 457 plant species and 293 animal species inhabiting this region, including the Andean bear and the golden eagle.
Laguna Negra, with its pristine waters encircled by majestic mountains, stands out as one of the moor's most breathtaking sites, notable not only for its beauty but also for its importance in maintaining the water cycle.
Following our visit to the lagoon, we'll pause at the Piedra Parada Refuge, a welcoming spot where you can soak in the serenity and admire the scenery. Here, you'll savor a traditional Santander lunch, featuring options like fresh trout or meats, offering a delectable taste of local flavors.
Subsequently, the tour proceeds to the charming Pueblito de Berlín, located in the Tona municipality. Known for its cool climate and moorland vistas, this area boasts a rich history in agriculture and livestock.
Before heading back to Bucaramanga, we'll visit the Berlin Dam waterfall on the Jordan River, a natural haven where you can unwind and enjoy the crisp mountain air. The experience wraps up around 4:00 PM.
