Tour Description
The journey kicks off when your guide arrives at your accommodation in Bogotá. As this is a full-day excursion, it begins in the morning, between 07 and 10 AM. You can select your preferred start time within this window.
We will depart Bogotá heading north, ensuring a comfortable and secure ride in our private transport. After roughly an hour, our first destination will be the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá.
With over 60 years of history, this subterranean cathedral was crafted inside the salt mines of Zipaquirá as a tribute to the devotion of the miners and workers who sought protection before starting their day. The cathedral is entirely carved from salt and is regarded as Colombia's top wonder. You will have the chance to explore the tunnels and corridors, located 200 meters below ground, which house a rich collection of art: sculptures made from salt and marble, set in an atmosphere of profound religious significance.
After the captivating underground experience, we will head to the town and explore the main streets of Zipaquirá to understand its historical significance and its links to ecotourism and geological sciences.
After lunch, we will enter the unique ecosystem of the Guatavita Natural Park, where you can enjoy the fresh air and discover the most renowned of the sacred lagoons from pre-Columbian times: La Laguna de Guatavita.
Sitting 3100 meters above sea level, the lagoon's perfectly circular shape, encircled by native encenillo forests, spans a diameter of approximately 700 m. Uncover some of the secrets and mysteries of this sacred site while immersing yourself in a natural setting shrouded in mist, tranquility, and untouched forests.
From Guatavita, we will make our way back to Bogotá, concluding the adventure with a return to your accommodation.
