Our adventure begins at approximately 2:30 p.m., departing from your hotel (timing may vary depending on the season and weather conditions). We'll delve into this lunar landscape, the namesake of the area. The Valle de la Luna is renowned for its distinctive rock formations, sand and salt dunes, and a striking lack of vegetation.
We'll embark on a gentle hike through the Cordillera de la Sal, where we'll witness an extraordinary geological marvel, marked by extensive deposits of salt, gypsum, and chalky earth. This mountain range boasts a landscape rich with natural sculptures, mountains, and salt ridges, all sculpted by wind and water over millennia. Among these remarkable formations, the most famous are Las Tres Marías and El Anfiteatro.
The valley is part of the Los Flamencos National Reserve and is managed by the indigenous communities of Coyo, San Pedro, Quitor, Séquitor, Larache, and Yaye.
One of the most awe-inspiring experiences in the Valle de la Luna is witnessing the "sunset". During this time, the rock formations and desert transform into golden and reddish hues, crafting a perfect setting for photography and quiet reflection.
