From the moment we left the hotel in either Puerto Varas or Puerto Montt, we boarded a Pargua ferry to cross the Chacao Channel, where we were delighted with the view of sea lions, pelicans and the vibrant local birdlife.
Upon arriving in Chacao, we explore its picturesque town, admiring the distinctive alerce wood buildings and visiting the historic San Antonio Church, a national monument.
Our next destination takes us to Ancud, where we immerse ourselves in its rich history by visiting the Local Museum to discover artifacts and stories from the region. We continue to the Municipal Market, where the aromas of fresh seafood and local produce invite us to an authentic gastronomic experience. We can`t miss exploring the imposing Fort of San Antonio, a 17th-century fortification that offers panoramic views of the city and the sea.
In Dalcahue, a unique sensory experience awaits us at its Food and Crafts Market, where we can savor local specialties and admire unique handicrafts. We walked to the Our Lady of Sorrows Church, recognized as a World Heritage Site, to absorb its traditional Chilote architecture.
Then, we headed to Castro, the vibrant capital of Chiloé, famous for its palafitos (stilt houses), where we took stunning photos of these colorful overwater dwellings. We conclude with a visit to the historic San Francisco Church and its lively Handicraft Market before returning to Puerto Varas.
