Tour Description

Embark on an unforgettable journey starting from the nearest city to Puerto Natales.

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Natales and accommodation at Hostal Factoría

Day 2: Arrival at Torres del Paine National Park - Hike to Mirador Base Torres

Upon reaching Laguna Amarga, register with the CONAF park rangers and then take the "Transporte Las Torres" to the "Welcome Center" at Cerro Paine Reserve. After a brief 5-minute walk, arrive at "Torre Central," where you can check in at your chosen accommodation—be it the refuge or campsite—unload your gear, and prepare for the trek.

Today's adventure kicks off in the Ascencio Valley, where you'll traverse its lush forests. The final ascent leads you across a vast field of giant boulders to the iconic "Mirador Base Torres." At an elevation of 900 meters, take in the breathtaking views of the three granite towers (North, Central, and South) and the stunning turquoise glacial lake below. Capture photos, savor a snack, and then retrace your steps back. After a rewarding hike, enjoy a delicious dinner at the shelter and rest for the evening.

Day 3: Grey Glacier

Begin your day with breakfast, ensuring you grab your box lunch for today's trek. The journey starts through a narrow, winding valley leading to Laguna Los Patos. As you proceed, marvel at glimpses of the vast Southern Ice Fields and the ice floes on Grey Lake. After passing a windy viewpoint, the path descends through a forested area until you reach the Grey Refuge. From here, a short 10-minute walk will take you to the Grey Glacier viewpoint, offering a close encounter with this majestic blue ice mass. Dinner is served at the refuge between 6:00 PM and 9:00 PM.

For those with extra energy, consider an optional excursion to the Grey Glacier, adding about 3 to 4 hours (round trip) past the refuge towards the renowned Hanging Bridges. This area offers the best viewpoint of the glacier. Witness the striking ice formations, the ravines carved by rivers and waterfalls from the Olguín Range, and perhaps even see ice calving into the frigid waters of Lake Grey.

Day 5: Explore the French Valley
We recommend an early start for this exceptional hike that leads you into the heart of Torres del Paine National Park. After breakfast, make sure to grab your box lunch and prepare to be mesmerized by the breathtaking Patagonian scenery. Following a two-hour trek, you’ll pass the Francés campsite and reach the entrance to the French Valley. You can leave your backpack at the Italiano campsite, where the park rangers are stationed, and begin your ascent into the French Valley.
Climb over large boulders, continuing through the forest to the Francés viewpoint. Here, you’ll be rewarded with awe-inspiring views of Los Cuernos, turquoise glacial lagoons, and the dramatic hanging glaciers cascading down the east face of Paine Grande Mountain (3,050 m). With some luck, you might hear the thunderous sound of the glacier and falling water, and witnessing an avalanche is quite common. Enjoy your box lunch and a well-earned rest before descending the same path back to Camp Italiano.
From there, continue walking to the Paine Grande refuge (2.5 hours). The path is mostly flat, allowing for a leisurely pace. Conclude your day with a delightful dinner at the shelter.

The self-guided W Circuit is of moderate to challenging difficulty. The total distance is 60–80 km, with hikes lasting 6 to 10 hours per day. The terrain is uneven, subject to Patagonian winds, and involves significant elevation changes (for example, the ascent to Base Torres is over 900 m). Prior trekking experience, good physical condition, and the ability to carry an 8–12 kg backpack if camping overnight are recommended. The trails are marked, but navigation and pacing are your responsibility. It is not ideal for unprepared beginners. Purchase travel/accident insurance and check weather forecasts to adjust your route safely.

If camping, add a sleeping bag (rated for -5 to -10°C) and a sleeping mat; check if your reservation includes a tent and stove or if you need to bring your own camping stove and fuel. Spaces for camping and catamaran tours on the W Circuit are limited, so it's advisable to book in advance. Entrance to Torres del Paine National Park is purchased separately (online) and requires presentation of identification. Regular transfers between Puerto Natales and the park, as well as the catamaran tour on Lake Pehoé, operate on fixed schedules and may be affected by weather.
