Tour Description
We will kick off this tour by departing from the passengers' hotels in Coyhaique at around 6 AM, embarking on our adventure along the Southern Highway en route to the charming town of Puerto Tranquilo.
During our approximately 223 km journey, we will have the opportunity to admire the breathtaking lenga, ciruelillo or notro, coigüe, and ñire forests. Our route will also take us past significant regional landmarks, including Laguna Chiguay, Piedra del Conde, and Portezuelo Ibáñez, the highest point along the entire Southern Highway. As we near the Ibañez River Valley, we will marvel at the sight of Cerro Castillo while traversing the newly established Cerro Castillo National Park. We will have several photo stops throughout the journey, passing through the Dead Forest, a witness to the eruption of Hudson Volcano in 1991, and descending through the Murta River Valley until we are greeted by the vastness of General Carrera Lake. Upon arrival at Puerto Tranquilo, we will enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. In the afternoon, a short transfer will take us to General Carrera Lake for an eagerly awaited boat excursion to the Marble Caves. This uniquely stunning location, carved by the lake's action on the limestone, boasts spectacular caves. After exploring the area and soaking in the breathtaking views of the Marble Caves, we will head back to Coyhaique, with a stop at Villa del Cerro Castillo to purchase a snack, if desired.
