During this excursion, we embark on a 13km boat journey from Rio to the confluence of the São Francisco River with the Atlantic Ocean. Often referred to as Velho Chico, this river is one of Brazil's most significant waterways, weaving through various regions from the mountains of Minas Gerais to the arid landscapes of northeastern Brazil. Its mouth forms the boundary between the states of Alagoas and Sergipe, showcasing untouched natural beauty characterized by dunes, mangroves, and islands.
Tour Description
We will depart from the hotel in Maceió and head towards the Municipality of Piaçabuçu. Here, we will board a schooner on the banks of the São Francisco River. Known as Velho Chico, this is the largest river entirely within Brazil. We will have the unique opportunity to witness where it meets the Atlantic Ocean. As this area is an environmental preservation zone, we will be able to admire exotic landscapes of untouched nature, shifting dunes, rare bird species, and islands that embellish every part of the journey.
We will pause at the confluence of the river and the ocean to stroll among the white dunes and take a swim in the mystical waters of the São Francisco River, as locals describe them. Before heading back to the hotel, we will stop for lunch.
