In the morning, your expert guide will pick you up from your hotel to embark on an adventure to the Pichi Leufú River. This river, a hallmark of the Patagonian steppe, is accessible only by wading due to its unique morphology. Situated 60 km from Bariloche, it is surrounded by a semi-desert landscape and breathtaking mountains. The river offers a safe environment for wading fishing, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced anglers alike.
This river is home to rainbow trout, brown trout, and Patagonian perch.
Upon reaching the Pichi Leufú River's boarding point, your guide will introduce the two fishing techniques available for this excursion:
- Fly Fishing: This involves casting flies—"dressed" hooks that mimic insects, small fish, shrimp, etc.—using a weighted line specifically designed for this activity, employing a precise technique. While this method requires practice and dedication to master the casting, it is rapidly gaining popularity worldwide.
- Spinning: This technique involves casting and retrieving artificial lures such as spoons, which mimic the movement of small aquatic creatures to entice the trout to strike.
After two hours of boat fishing, you will reach the riverbank to relish a delightful lunch amidst nature. Following a refreshing break, you'll continue floating and fishing throughout the afternoon at the prime spots along the Pichi Leufú River.
Accompanied by your guide, you will also learn about the history of the San Carlos de Bariloche region and discover the best fishing opportunities and fish species in the area.
After a 12 km day trip, your guide will lead you to the river's exit point, where vehicles will be waiting to transport you back to your hotel.
Fishing Season
The fishing season kicks off annually on November 1st and concludes on April 30th within the Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia. For off-season fishing, lakes such as Nahuel Huapi, Gutierrez, and Mascardi remain open for all three types of fishing year-round, allowing for winter fishing excursions as well.
