Tour Description

DAY 1

In the early morning, we will collect you from your hotel in the city of Puno to embark on an excursion to the port lake. Here, we'll board a regular boat to kick off our journey by visiting the Uros Floating Islands. These stunning islands are handcrafted by locals using totora reed, with approximately 80 islands in total made from this material.

The Uros Islands are constructed by intricately weaving the totora reed. The inhabitants also build their homes from this material and cook outdoors to prevent fires. You'll get the chance to meet the welcoming Uros people and learn about their customs and way of life.

The Titicaca tour continues with a boat trip to Amantani Island, navigating the vast Lake Titicaca, which is recognized as the world's highest navigable lake at an elevation of 3,812 meters above sea level. It is also the second-largest lake in South America.

Upon our arrival, the hospitable community will greet us warmly. This mystical island is home to 800 families and features significant ceremonial centers where shamans predict the future using coca leaves. We'll enjoy a lunch with the locals to further immerse ourselves in their lifestyle.

Later, we will ascend to Pacha Tata (4,100 meters above sea level), which houses the most vital mystical ceremonial center on Lake Titicaca, to witness a breathtaking sunset.

Relish a delightful dinner with the local community, and if you wish, you can join them in traditional activities.

You will spend the night in a comfortable family house.

DAY 2

Following a traditional Andean breakfast, we will set sail to visit Taquile Island, located 28 miles from Amantaní Island. Taquile sits at an elevation of 3,950 meters above sea level, with its highest point reaching 4,050 meters.

On this island, you'll be treated to stunning views of the lake and landscapes framed by the Andes mountains under a brilliant blue sky. Here, you'll admire remarkable flora such as the Cantuta flower and the medicinal Muña plant, known for its healing properties and commonly used in infusions. The fauna includes farm animals like cows, rams, and chickens.

We will enjoy a vibrant performance by the local community featuring dances, music, and a photo session in traditional attire while you savor lunch.

Taquile Island is renowned for its skilled artisans. The textile art is truly remarkable, utilizing ancient and organic techniques, including natural vegetable dyes.

As our journey concludes, we will board the boat back to the port lake of the city of Puno and ensure your safe return to your hotel.

Frequently Asked Questions

The Uros, Amantani, and Taquile excursion lasts 2 days/1 night, departing from Puno, Peru. Day 1: Transfer to the port, boat trip across Lake Titicaca to the floating islands of the Uros (approx. 30–40 min); guided tour and time for photos. Continue to Amantani (2.5–3 hrs), traditional lunch, overnight stay in a local family home (experiential tourism), and optional hike to the Pachatata/Pachamama viewpoint for sunset. Day 2: Departure to Taquile (1 hr), tour of the community and its textiles (Cultural Heritage), lunch, and return to Puno (2.5–3 hrs). Approximate times subject to lake conditions and season.

The Uros, Amantani, and Taquile tour generally includes: hotel pickup in Puno, transfer to the port, a boat trip, a bilingual guide (Spanish/English), community entrance fees, homestay accommodation on Amantani (1 night), basic local meals (lunch and dinner on day 1; breakfast on day 2), and ongoing assistance. It typically does not include: drinks, tips, snacks, travel insurance, port/local taxes, or handicraft purchases. Some agencies offer upgrades to speedboats or supplements for special diets. We recommend confirming exactly what is included before booking to avoid extra charges and ensure an authentic and well-organized experience on Lake Titicaca.

Due to the altitude of Lake Titicaca, pack layers of clothing: a thermal base layer, a fleece, a windproof/waterproof jacket, a hat, and gloves; comfortable walking shoes are also essential. Other must-haves include sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat, lip balm, a reusable water bottle, a headlamp, and cash in soles for handicrafts and community contributions. Between May and September (the dry season), the days are sunny and cool: 10–18°C (50–64°F); nights 0–5°C (32–41°F). From November to April, there are intermittent rains; pack a poncho or umbrella. It's advisable to bring altitude sickness medication (sorojchi), coca leaves, or muña tea. Also pack toiletries and a portable charger.

The excursion is moderately difficult due to the altitude. Puno is at 3,810 meters above sea level; Amantani and Taquile reach 3,950–4,050 meters. There are hikes on uneven terrain and staircases on Taquile (approximately 500–560 steps). We suggest acclimatizing for 1–2 days in Puno, staying hydrated, eating light meals, avoiding alcohol, and walking slowly. If you suffer from hypertension, asthma, or heart problems, consult your doctor and bring your medication. The tour guide adjusts the pace of the group, and there are alternative, less steep routes. There are no vehicles on the islands; everything is explored on foot. Boat trips are calm and safe, weather permitting.

To book the Uros, Amantani, and Taquile tour, it's best to do so in advance, especially during peak season (June–August and holidays). You'll typically be asked for your full name, passport number, and hotel accommodations in Puno. Payment is usually accepted by credit card or bank transfer; you'll receive an electronic confirmation of your tour. Cancellation policies vary: many offer partial refunds up to 48–72 hours prior to departure; please check the exact terms. The best time to visit is during the dry season (May–September) for clear skies; the tour operates year-round, but schedules may change during the rainy season (November–April). Homestay accommodations are limited, so book early to ensure availability.
