Tour Description
We will arrange your pickup from either the bus terminal or your hotel in the heart of Nazca and escort you to the Nazca aerodrome. Upon arrival, we will complete the necessary pre-flight procedures, which take around 45 minutes, before preparing to fly over these awe-inspiring figures.
The Nazca Lines are situated in the desert plains between Nazca and Palpa, approximately 447 kilometers from Lima, in one of the world's driest deserts. Initial references to these lines date back to 1547, but they were officially discovered by Peruvian archaeologist Toribio Mejía Xesspe in 1927. From 1946, German archaeologist Maria Reiche devoted her life to studying and preserving the Nazca Lines. Her theory suggests that these lines functioned as a massive solar and lunar calendar used by ancient astronomers.
There are numerous theories regarding the purpose of these geoglyphs. Some suggest a possible link to extraterrestrials, or that the inhabitants created these vast artworks for their gods to view from above. To this day, the true purpose remains a mystery.
If you opt for the 30-minute flight, you will witness 13 figures including the whale, trapezoids, the dog, the astronaut, the monkey, the condor, the compass, the spider, the hummingbird, the parrot, the tree, the hand, and the albatross.
If you select the 1-hour flight, you will have the opportunity to admire 21 figures across the stunning Nazca and Palpa plains. Initially, you will observe the 13 figures mentioned earlier, followed by new and incredible lines over the Palpa plains, such as the heron, the crane, the pelican, the seagull, the parrot, the snail, llamas, iguana, lizard, snakes, and various birds.
The Nazca culture thrived between the 1st and 7th centuries AD, renowned for their polychrome ceramics, textiles, and metalwork. Their ceremonial center was located in Cahuachi, situated in the Nazca River valley. Through a sophisticated network of aqueducts, they were able to irrigate their lands and practice agriculture. The Nazca Lines are extraordinary creations of this culture, with interpretations ranging from mythical to scientific.
Following your flight, we will transfer you back to your hotel in the city of Nazca or to the bus station, depending on your itinerary.
