The expedition to the Pastoruri Glacier offers a unique adventure, as it is among the most accessible snow-capped peaks, situated at an elevation of 17,192 feet.
Frequently referred to as the “route of climate change”, this journey invites you to discover the renowned glacier in Huaraz. During your visit, you'll also have the opportunity to witness the Puya Raimondi, an impressive plant indigenous to the high altitudes of the Andes.
Tour Description
We will collect you from your hotel or designated meeting point in Huaraz city, and then embark on a 2-hour drive south to reach the parking area of the Pastoruri Glacier, situated within the Huascarán National Park, recognized as a World Natural Heritage site since 1985.
From this point, we will set off on a 1-hour hike to approach the closest point of the glacier. Our professional guide will enlighten us about the significant impact of climate change on this area, highlighting how it has contributed to the gradual retreat of this renowned glacier, aiming to raise awareness about this critical issue.
Previously, this location was a popular skiing destination, but skiing is now prohibited to help preserve the glacier.
After enjoying our time at Pastoruri, capturing photographs and soaking in the stunning landscapes, we will return to our transport to head to the Carpa Valley, where the Puyas Raimondi are found. These impressive plants belong to the bromeliad family, can grow up to 39 feet tall, and have a lifespan of up to 100 years.
Finally, we will return to the designated meeting point in Huaraz to drop you off.
