Enjoy the charm of the main square, a bustling hub for both locals and visitors.

The tour continues to archaeological sites close to Cusco's historic center. Start at the Sacsayhuaman fortress, just 2 kilometers away, showcasing impressive stone constructions and massive walls, some weighing as much as 120 tons.

Proceed to the red fortress of Qenqo, a sacred site devoted to Earth worship, featuring subterranean galleries. Then, pass by Puka Pukara, formerly used as a military control point, and conclude with a visit to the water temple known as Tambomachay, a worship center with aqueducts and springs-fed waterfalls.

Travel assistance and pre-tour coordination are often included. Meals, drinks, tips, travel insurance, and personal expenses are not usually included. The standard Machu Picchu tour itinerary begins early with hotel pickup and transfer to the train station. The scenic drive through the Sacred Valley leads to Aguas Calientes, where you'll board an eco-friendly bus (25–30 min) to the entrance of the citadel. The guided tour of the main viewpoints and archaeological sites lasts 2–3 hours, depending on the route and your entry time. Afterward, there's free time for photos before returning to Aguas Calientes for lunch (at your own expense). You'll then board the train back and be transferred to your hotel. Total duration: 10–14 hours.

The best time to visit Machu Picchu is usually during the dry season (May to September): more stable weather, clear skies, and spectacular views, although this comes with higher tourist demand and higher prices. The rainy season (November to March) offers lush green landscapes and fewer visitors, but there are showers and possible transportation delays. April and October are transitional months with a good balance. Mornings are cool and midday is mild; pack layers and a raincoat. For photography and to avoid crowds, early entry works well. Book in advance for holidays and long weekends. Check the local weather forecast before your excursion.

The price of a tour to Machu Picchu varies depending on the season, train type, service category, departure point (Cusco or Sacred Valley), and whether it includes additional entrance fees such as Huayna Picchu. Due to high demand, it is recommended to book weeks or months in advance, especially during peak season. Machu Picchu tickets are non-transferable, with assigned times/routes and limited availability; they are issued using the information on a valid passport. Changes and cancellations are subject to supplier penalties and official regulations; some tickets may be non-refundable. The agency typically offers electronic confirmation and secure payments. Ask about student/child rates. Consider travel insurance.

For your Machu Picchu excursion, bring your passport, tickets, cash in soles, layered clothing, a raincoat/poncho, non-slip shoes, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat, sunglasses, a reusable water bottle, and snacks. Use a small backpack (large backpacks are not allowed). Drones, large tripods, and selfie sticks are prohibited in archaeological zones. Due to the altitude in Cusco/Sacred Valley, it's advisable to acclimatize for 1–2 days, stay hydrated, avoid alcohol and strenuous activity; consult your doctor if you have cardiovascular or respiratory conditions. Bring any personal medication and consider altitude sickness pills. Respect designated routes, signs, and time limits; re-entry is generally not permitted after the visit has concluded.
