Tour Description
After collecting you from your hotel in the historic center of Arequipa, we will embark on our walking tour through the colonial district of San Lázaro, the birthplace of Arequipa and its oldest neighborhood.
Our journey includes a visit to Mundo Alpaca, an incredible venue to discover the textile industry, its processes, and the production of alpaca fiber, renowned globally. Here, you can admire these magnificent animals, along with llamas, in their natural habitat.
We will stroll by San Francisco Square, where we will enjoy a panoramic view of the San Francisco Church, originally constructed in the 17th century and subsequently restored several times due to earthquakes. En route to the Plaza de Armas, we'll pass by colonial mansions such as the Tristán del Pozo Mansion, distinguished by its exquisite 18th-century baroque entrance.
Next, we will take in the sights of the Plaza de Armas and the Municipal Palace, marveling at the stunning architecture that surrounds us. Notable landmarks include the Cathedral, the Church of La Compañía, founded by the Jesuits in the 17th century, and the Church of San Francisco, dating back to the 16th century, each celebrated for their remarkable constructions.
Our journey continues at the Andean Sanctuaries Museum, an archaeological museum showcasing a fascinating collection of Inca cultural artifacts, approximately 500 years old, and exhibits of ancient Peruvian mummies.
You will have the opportunity to observe the well-preserved state of the famous Lady of Ampato, and learn about the mummification techniques that have maintained her condition.
Also known as the Juanita Mummy, she was an Inca girl aged between 13 and 14, discovered frozen on the Ampato Volcano in 1995. She is currently preserved in a special urn at a temperature of 19 degrees below zero. Found alongside offerings such as gold and precious stone figurines, and other artifacts, her story is vividly displayed in the museum.
Upon concluding the guided tour, we will return you to your hotel or the city center.
