Descripción del Tour
Our journey begins bright and early at the designated meeting points. You have the option to choose between two locations to embark on this exciting full-day excursion.
Itinerary Overview:
08:00 AM: Assemble at Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria for the departure. This is the initial meeting spot where we will gather, check the group, and receive an introduction to the day's itinerary from our tour coordinator.
9:00 AM: Collect additional travelers at the second pick-up point, Parque de la 93. From here, we set off for Zipaquirá, departing from Bogotá. The journey will take around 1.5 hours, covering approximately 50 km north of the capital. We will leave the urban landscape behind, embracing the tranquility and greenery of the surrounding villages.
10:45 AM: Arrival in Zipaquirá, a picturesque colonial town established in 1600, renowned for the Salt Cathedral and its charming architecture, featuring cobblestone streets, vibrant houses, and lovely squares.
11:00 AM: Entry to the Salt Cathedral, where the exploration of its underground tunnels and chapels carved from rock salt begins. The coordinator will facilitate your entry without lengthy queues and guide you on utilizing the audio guide during your subterranean experience.
Upon entering the salt mine, you'll marvel at the grandeur of the structure while learning about the cathedral's history and construction. As you proceed, you'll encounter chapels depicting the Stations of the Cross, all intricately carved from rock salt and adorned with breathtaking sculptures that will leave you awe-inspired.
Ultimately, you will reach the Cathedral's nave, where every detail and its unique lighting enhance the structure's beauty, creating a magical and mystical ambiance. Here, you can admire a large cross carved into the rock and enjoy religious music in an atmosphere conducive to silence and reflection.
1:30 PM: Conclusion of the Salt Cathedral tour. You will have some leisure time to explore the town and savor lunch at one of the many local eateries (lunch not included in the tour).
Zipaquirá is celebrated for its culinary offerings, with a wide array of restaurants serving traditional Colombian and regional dishes. Popular menu items include pea soup, ajiaco, mixed meats, chicken sancocho, and lomo al trapo.
If you decide to wander around town, we recommend visiting the Plaza de los Comuneros, a hub for gatherings and cultural events. Alternatively, explore one of the town's museums, such as the Archaeological Museum and the Gold Museum, which chronicle the region's history and indigenous culture.
03:00 PM: Return to the bus and depart Zipaquirá. We bid farewell to the town, enriched by its vibrant energy and captivated by the magnificent and saline underground structure.
04:30 PM: Arrival at Parque de la 93, where passengers who boarded here will disembark.
05:30 PM: Arrival at Parque de los Periodistas in La Candelaria, marking the end of our tour.
