Tour Description

Today, embark on an adventure with us as we delve into the natural marvels of Conguillío National Park, nestled in the heart of Araucanía.

We'll depart from our hotel in Pucón early in the morning at the prearranged time, heading towards Melipeuco, approximately 124 km away. Our destination is one of the region's most significant landmarks, the Conguillío National Park.

Established as a Forest Reserve in 1950, Conguillío gained its status as a National Park in 1970. In 1987, it merged with Paraguas Park due to shared ecological and geographical features, currently covering 60,833 hectares.

The park is renowned for its vast forested areas, prominently featuring araucaria among other species, as well as lagoons with pristine, crystal-clear waters. Situated in the Andean region between 700 and 2,500 meters above sea level, it offers a breathtaking blend of natural beauty and awe-inspiring panoramic vistas.

Within the park, 13 designated trails await exploration. Key attractions include the Llaima Volcano, Lagoons Verde, Arco Iris, Captrén, Quepe, and Lake Conguillío. This lake nestles at the base of Sierra Nevada, surrounded by lush native vegetation, towering Araucaria trees, Coigüe, Lenga, and Cypress forests.

Noteworthy spots within the park include Trucha Linda Salto, Truful-Truful Salto, Sierra Nevada, Cerro La Cruz, and the Llaima Volcano ski resort.

This area is rich in cultural heritage, once home to the original Pehuenche ethnic group. Their presence is evident in artifacts and the indigenous names of significant locations and geographical features.

We'll explore six primary hiking trails during the tour. "Sierra Nevada" offers spectacular views of Lake Conguillío, Llaima Volcano, and surrounding glaciers. "Los Carpinteros" is nestled among Araucaria and Lenga forests, leading to the Captrén Lagoon, teeming with birdlife.

"Las Araucarias" and "Las Vertientes" are both 800 meters long, featuring charming waterways originating underground. The "Cañadón del Truful-Truful" trail unveils the area's fascinating geological history. The "Cerro Colorado" trail skirts the western slope of the Llaima Volcano, offering vistas of the central valley and the slag heaps.

During our journey, we'll pause at a scenic spot to relish a delicious box lunch, recharging our energy for the next leg of our adventure.

Throughout the trek, encounter a variety of local and endemic wildlife, including the puma, guiña, black woodpecker, brown-striped lizard, Darwin's frog, freshwater shark, and the mountain monkey, the world's smallest marsupial, along with the condor, harrier, and diverse aquatic birds thriving around its lagoons.

We'll also witness the impressive lava flows of the Llaima Volcano, reaching approximately 3,125 meters above sea level. This remarkable location offers a rare glimpse of extraordinary lava formations seldom seen elsewhere.

After an exhilarating day exploring Conguillío National Park, we'll make our way back to our starting point.

This experience will leave you with a sense of accomplishment, having explored this natural paradise.
