Our adventure begins in the stunning city of Arica, affectionately known as the City of Eternal Spring, thanks to its delightful climate.
Our first stop is the San Marcos Cathedral, a Gothic architectural masterpiece from the 19th century. This magnificent structure, crafted in metal and wood, was designed by the renowned French architect Gustave Eiffel and was transported from France to be assembled here in 1876. Recognized as a National Monument since 1984 and a Historic Monumentsince 2002, it is a must-see.
Our tour continues along the picturesque waterfront, featuring significant sites like the former Scorpion Island and its fortification, recognized as a National Monument in 1985. This fortification contains archaeological evidence of pre-Hispanic settlements.
The area is a hotspot for water sports, including bodyboarding, surfing, diving, swimming, fishing, climbing, and sailing. It hosts major sports events like the Maui and Sons Arica WorldStar Tour and the ACC Grand Slam Bodyboarding competition.
Nearby, you'll find the popular Balneario de La Lisera, a hub of the fishing industry and a cornerstone of the city's commercial life.
Next, we will ascend "El Morro de Arica", a significant topographical feature standing approximately 130 meters high. Situated south of Arica's urban center, it is the city's most distinguished tourist and symbolic site, designated as a National Monument in October 1971.
This location offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surroundings and serves as a historical reminder of the 19th-century war, complete with a museum at its summit.
The rock formation, part of the Coastal Mountain Range, was a key fortress in the War of the Pacific, featuring Fort Ciudadela, Fort del Este, Fort Morro Gordo, and the Morro Bajo Naval Base. Notable sights include cannons, a bust of Colonel Pedro Lagos, and the Monument to the Unknown Soldier.
Our final stops include beloved local spots: the Carlos Dittborn World Cup Stadium, the 21st of May extension, Costanera Norte, Chinchorro Beach and Resort, and General Velázquez.
Don't miss the chance to savor the local cuisine at the Central Market, where you can enjoy authentic regional dishes like fresh fish and seafood (Not included).
After a day rich in history, culture, and stunning vistas, we'll return to our starting point. This Arica City Tour will deepen your appreciation for the region and leave you with a collection of unforgettable memories.
