The Colorado Volcano is a prominent hill located near the town of San Martín de los Andes, with its peak visible from various scenic spots such as Catritre, the Route of the Seven Lakes, Quilaquina, Trompul, Lago Lolog, among others.
Our journey begins by picking up each traveler from their accommodation for a transfer to the mountain's base, a ride that takes approximately 40 minutes.
Once on foot, we'll traverse the pampas that lead us closer to the mountain's foundation. Following a stream, we'll venture into a vast lenga forest, home to trees soaring up to 30 meters high, and navigate through thickets of Colihues. As we delve deeper, we'll enter a canyon offering a steady yet manageable ascent.
As we climb higher, the vegetation becomes more sparse, providing us with expansive views of the entire Lacar Basin until it gradually transforms into shrubland.
We'll pass numerous natural rock viewpoints before reaching the pre-summit, where the ground takes on a reddish hue as we approach the border. The rock texture here is reminiscent of pumice stone, indicative of the ancient volcanic cone that, through its various eruptions, has covered the summit in solidified lava.
The summit serves as the area's focal point, offering an unobstructed 360-degree panorama. From here, you can admire Lacar Lake, the Chapelco mountain range, Cerro Abanico, the mountain range in its full extent, Cerro Sabana, Mallo, Lago and Cerro Lolog, the iconic Lanín Volcano, and countless other landmarks.
The tour concludes with the passengers returning to their accommodations.
