Trekking Along The Viltopoco Trails

The tour begins at the designated meeting point, where passengers will be greeted by a local interpreter-guide. He or she will provide a welcome and brief introduction to the itinerary, highlighting the cultural and historical significance of Viltipoco, a native who resisted Spanish rule for nearly sixty years after the fall of the Inca Empire.

Once everyone is ready, the 7-kilometer hike will begin through a dry riverbed, surrounded by mountains. The guide will narrate the history of the region while passengers enjoy the surroundings, admiring the landforms and the imposing cardones. As they advance, the landscape will gradually transform into a mud labyrinthwith vertical wallsover 40 meters high. 

Continuing the journey, the group will enter a narrow space where they will discover a cave, formed by the internal forcesof the Earth`s crust. This will be the ideal setting to explore the Andean worldview, understanding the connectionbetween natureand the spiritualityof the indigenous cultures. Throughout the trail, the guide will invite participants to interact and reflect on the cultural legacy that this place represents.

After crossing the narrow passage, the path returns to the riverbed, allowing participants to explore the native vegetation that, in addition to beautifying the landscape, is an integral part of traditional medicine and food. This section offers an opportunity to learn about the area`s biodiversity and its importance in daily life.

As the end of the trail approaches, the group will reach the midpoint of the mountain, a perfect place for a break.

Finally, the guide will escort the passengers back to the starting point.
