Tour Description

Our adventure kicks off in the morning as we pick you up from your hotel in the central area of Esquel. We'll set off towards the town of Gualjaina, located just 85 km to the East.
After an hour-long van journey, alongside an expert guide and amidst the Chubut River valley, we will encounter La Piedra Parada, whose impressive 210-meter height is sure to captivate you.
We will disembark to explore the entire area, where the guide will immerse us in the historical context and geological evolution of the site, which, millions of years ago, was the caldera of a volcano. The solidified chimney has led to unique geoforms; today, it is part of the Piedra Parada Protected Natural Area due to its significant heritage, cultural, and natural importance.
We will take in the incomparable landscape of the Patagonian steppe, where we might spot species like caracaras and harriers.
Our exploration will continue towards Cañadón de la Buitrera, situated a few kilometers from the stone, crossing the Chubut River. We will delve into the canyon's interior, which stretches 3 km and is bordered by 150-meter-high walls, gradually tapering as we move inward.
We will discover an overhang, where an aboriginal settlement existed over 5000 years ago, now featuring cave paintings that render it a site of paleontological and archaeological significance.
There will be ample time to explore the canyon until sunset, revel in the tranquility of the location, and admire the striking colors of the volcanic rock along with its crevices that harbor birds, reptiles, and rodents like the chinchillón.
Following the excursion, we will retrace our steps back to the vehicle. The journey concludes with a drop-off at your hotel around 7:00 p.m.
