In the morning, your expert guide will pick you up from your hotel and take you to your chosen destination: Rio Manso, Lake Hess, or Lake Los Moscos.
Rio Manso meanders through the Andean valleys, flanked by lush forests and towering mountains. This river links the lakes Mascardi, Los Moscos, La Medialuna, Hess, and Steffen. Here, you can catch rainbow, brown, and brook trout. It is situated 65 km from Bariloche.
Lake Hess is a picturesque location where only rowboat fishing is permitted. Its shores are lush with vegetation, making it an ideal habitat for nesting aquatic birds. It's a great spot for fishing with large dry flies, and if fortune favors, a dragonfly hatch may turn the day unforgettable, as large trout leap out of the water to catch them mid-air. This lake is located 60 km from Bariloche.
Lake Los Moscos is a small lake, roughly 4 km in diameter, with the Manso River flowing through it from east to west. This lake allows for a combination of fishing across the entire lake and about three km of the Manso River to the west, exclusively using rowboats. Brown, rainbow, and brook trout can be found here.
All three locations are within a stunning area of the National Park, offering breathtaking landscapes and a pleasant climate.
Upon reaching the boarding point, your guide will introduce the fishing techniques recommended for the excursion:
- Fly fishing: This involves casting flies—"dressed" hooks—designed to mimic insects, small fish, shrimp, etc., using a weighted line specifically crafted for this purpose, employing a precise technique. Although this method demands practice and dedication to master, it is gaining popularity worldwide.
- Spinning: This technique involves casting and retrieving artificial lures like spoons, simulating the motion of a small creature in the water, enticing trout to strike. Spinning is allowed in all lakes and certain river sections and can be done from the shore or boats, either rowing or using motorboats. We suggest using ultra-light gear and simple barbless hooks.
- Trolling: Nahuel Huapi National Park boasts many idyllic lakes perfect for this form of fishing. We slowly drag artificial lures behind a motorboat while enjoying the breathtaking scenery.
Following this, the excursion commences, navigating the waters of the Manso River, Hess Lake, or Los Moscos Lake, employing your chosen fishing technique.
After two hours of fishing from the boat, you'll reach the river or lake's edge to relish a delicious lunch amidst nature. Post a relaxing break, you'll continue floating and fishing during the afternoon, exploring the prime spots that the Manso River or the Lakes offer.
Accompanied by your guide, you'll delve into the history of the San Carlos de Bariloche region and discover the best fishing opportunities and fish species that inhabit the area.
After a 12 km journey throughout the day, your guide will lead you to the exit point of the River or the Lakes, where vehicles will be waiting to transport you back to your hotel.
Fishing Season
The fishing season at Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia, runs annually from November 1st to April 30th. However, for off-season fishing, Nahuel Huapi, Gutierrez, and Mascardi lakes remain open throughout May and October. Lake Moreno is accessible for all three fishing types year-round, allowing for winter fishing.
